Are you looking for a diet that is reminiscent of the past? Or perhaps you've always been a fan of the caveman lifestyle. This description might sound amusing, but it does sum up the Paleo diet fairly well. After all, Paleo is short for Paleolithic, which was a much more primitive time than the present.

So, why is this diet named after the Paleolithic period? The answer is fairly simple: it's because the Paleo diet is based on the theory that we should eat the same foods as our great hunter-gatherer ancestors did. The Paleo diet's main belief is that many diseases are connected to the typical Western diet, which is why processed foods, dairy, and grains are eliminated from this system.

If you're looking for a diet that combines weight loss and promoted health benefits, then the Paleo diet is for you. This diet reduces the risk for heart disease, blood pressure, and diabetes.

Essentially, going on the Paleo diet is a way to consciously watch what you eat while still losing weight. This is an ideal diet for anyone who's wary of their current health situation, or for anyone who wants to take precaution.

This doesn't sound too bad, does it? Losing weight and staying physically health are both very good things. However, one downfall of the Paleo diet is the fact that it's much more focused on the past. What does this mean, exactly? Well, if you go on the Paleo diet, you won't be able to keep up with latest fast-food trends. That's right – you'll have to skip out on McDonald's new fresh beef sandwiches that they've recently released. Basically, if our ancestors couldn't eat it or make it on their own, then you can kiss it goodbye!

You'll probably experience quite a bit of FOMO while on this system, but that holds true for nearly any diet.

Here are a few of the foods that you can't eat while on the Paleo diet:

  • Pasta
  • Candy
  • Grains
  • Glutens
  • Most dairy products
  • Processed foods of any kind
  • Legumes
  • Artificial sweeteners
  • Vegetable oils
  • Trans fats

However, most of the good stuff is still up for grabs. This includes meat, eggs, vegetables, fish, fruits, nuts, seeds, healthy fats, and oils.

If you want to live like a caveman (or cavewoman, for that matter), then the Paleo diet is definitely appropriate. It's also an excellent way to lose weight and promote your health.
