Wedding season is upon us and that means it's time to start thinking about bringing that style and flair to the biggest formal events of the summer. Traditional ties are classic and elegant, but if you want to really stand out, considering wearing a wooden bow tie. They're comfortable, affordable, and will leave a lasting impression on everyone you meet.

What is a wooden bow tie?

Wooden bow ties are crafted from a variety of different woods, including mahogany, walnut, bamboo, plywood, and even cork. The harder the wood, the more sturdy the bow tie will be. The wood is cut into a bow tie shape and then connected to a piece of fabric which helps keep the bow tie in place.

What are the most common wooden bow tie shapes?

Much like regular fabric bow ties, wooden bow ties come in several different shapes and sizes. The most common shape is the butterfly. This features triangular shapes on either end that are wider than the center of the bow tie, thus giving it a butterfly appearance. Other common shapes include the bat wing, diamond point, and club round.

How do you care for a wooden bow tie?

Since they're made from wood, these bow ties can't go in the washing machine or be submerged in water like fabric bow ties can. Given their material, they are even easier to clean. If the wooden part of the bow tie gets dirty, it can simply be wiped clean with a damp, soapy towel and allowed to air dry. If the fabric portion of the bow tie gets dirty, it can be hand washed in warm, soapy water and allowed to air dry- just be sure to avoid getting the wooden portion of the bow tie wet.

What type of suit looks best with a wooden bow tie?

Any suit goes with a wooden bow tie, even formal tuxedos. You can also wear a wooden bow tie without a blazer as it looks just as great with a basic button down shirt. More elegant woods, like mahogany, will look best with formal suits. Softer woods like plywood and cork would go best with a casual ensemble.

We have several wooden bow ties on our website that will coordinate with a variety of suits. You're sure to stand out at any summer wedding you attend.
