Cardi B had an epiphany last week. The rapper stated in a tweet on May 24 that she thought it was "amazing" how much Donald Glover and Childish Gambino look alike, and that she thought they might be the same person. Her 3.17 million followers were quick to point out that they, in fact, are the same person.
The "Bodak Yellow" singer later deleted her embarrassing tweet and followed it up with another one, stating she was confused about the situation. She isn't the only one who wasn't aware that the "Atlanta" star and "This Is America" rapper are one and the same.
After her post, many other users took to their Twitter accounts to express their surprise at the revelation. One tweet in particular pointed out that everyone remembers where they were when Michael Jackson died, and now everyone will remember where they were when they found out Donald Glover and Childish Gambino are the same person. Lucky for them, they didn't make the cringe worthy mistake in front of millions of followers.
Donald Glover, best known for his portrayal of Troy Barnes in the hit NBC comedy "Community" has actually been a rapper and DJ for many years. His first album was released in 2011, but it wasn't until his breakout hit "Redbone" in 2016 that people started paying attention. After earning a Grammy and making "Time" magazine's list of the 100 most influential people in the world for 2017, Glover released his first number one hit, "This Is America".
When asked by Jimmy Fallon in 2011 how he came up with the stage name Childish Gambino, Glover admitted that he used a Wu-Tang name generator and the name just stuck with him. He said the name suits his personality well, since he's "a little scary but mostly cuddly."
Glover seems unfazed by the confusion surrounding his multiple names. In fact, he even uses another name when he performs as a DJ, where he is known as mcDJ. No wonder Cardi B was bewildered.
For now, the 25-year-old rapper can blame it on pregnancy brain, as she is expecting her first child with fiance, hip-hop artist Offset, in July. Cardi B recently canceled several upcoming performances in anticipation of her baby girl's impending arrival. In the meantime, her Twitter followers anxiously await her next hilarious post, as there's always something interesting to be expected from the soon-to-be mom.
